Importance of shoes to child
Parents so often worry about their children's teeth, eyes and most others parts of the body, but do not worry so much over the developing foot. Poorly fitting children's shoes can cause a number of problems in adults such as hammer toes, ingrown toenails, foot corns, calluses, bunions. etc. Given the high level of pain and discomfort that these problems can cause. Foot problems in children are usually preventable if the child's shoes fitted appropriately.
Advice for the fitting of a child's footwear
Children should have their feet measure about every 3 months (thus ensuring the need for new shoes as required)

Generally, for a shoe to be correctly fitted, there should be a thumb width (0.8mm) between the end of the shoes and the end of the longest toe. Check that the shoes have rounded toe boxes to give the toe more room to move. It is advisable to inspect the shoes fit every couple of weeks to insure the continuing comfort of your child's feet. |
|

|
When looking at the bottom (outsole) of the shoes, it should be relatively straight (not curved in too much) because the foot is straight, so the shoes should be straight. Beside that the outsole also should be non-slip soles. |

|
A soft and flexible insole is helpful to insure the comfort of your child's feet. It makes your child to enjoy moving, walk and run with happily. |

The heel counter (back part of the shoes) should be strong and stable. The fastening mechanism (laces, velcro, buckles) should hold the heel firmly in the back of the shoe (the foot should not be able to slide forward in the shoes). |
